Development

Our mission is to develop and promote Athletics for all persons in all age groups in Central Gauteng by developing skills and competence of these Athletes, Coaches, Technical Official and Administrators through the acquisition of coaching techniques and clinics, Technical Officials Courses and Administration seminars through the CGA Centre of Excellence and Gauteng Academy.

INTRODUCTION
Athletics development is a very crucial and fundamental element to sustain the progress and growth of the sport. CGA mission is to develop and promote Athletics for all persons in all age groups in Central Gauteng by developing skills and competence of these Athletes, Coaches, Technical Official and Administrators through the acquisition of coaching techniques and clinics, Technical Officials Courses and Administration seminars through the CGA Centre of Excellence and Gauteng Academy.

CGA DEVELOPMENT AND EXCELLENCE PROGRAMMES

1. Capacity Building
To build the capacity of professionalism within the provinces athletics there are a number of workshops and courses that will cater in producing exceptional Athletes, Coaches, Women in athletics, Club and Office Administrators and Technical Officials. Below are some programmes provided by the province:

  2. Athletes Workshop
  3. Coaches Symposium
  4. ASA National Level 1 & 2 Coaching Course
  5. ASA National Technical Officials Level 1 & 2 Officiating Course
  6. Technical Official Symposium
  7. Women Seminar
  8. Development Indaba
  9. Club Administration Workshop

2. Coaching Clinics
The focus of the coaching clinics is to encourage participation and introducing children to the sport with an emphasis on fun and enjoyment while learning the basics of athletics and also educating community coaches on the modern techniques for training and coaching.

We look into conducting 15 coaching clinics in different area/schools under the CGA demarcation.

Each coaching clinic will be coordinated by an ASA qualified coach who takes the athletes through various athletics general skills and training

3. Talent Identification
Talent ID should occur when an athlete is not currently participating in athletics but can be identified as showing potential.

Talent Identification is about doing an athletic event but rather search for talent
To groom athletes from a tender young age of 8 years.

CGA has structured developments events to assist both coaches and clubs with 8 Cross Country league, Track and Field leagues and Zet Sinqe Junior Series.

It is the best development platform in introducing young kids with potential to athletic events and make it accessible and available to everyone

To monitor and support the progress of all the potential kids

4. Development Squads & Training
The main purpose of CGA development squads is to form a structured path-way for athletes in the province and keeping athletes competitive. CGA together with the provincial government will have a structure in place in forming firstly regional squads which will be also a direct feeder to the provincial academy.
