CGA Road Running commission is looking at selecting the best team to represent the province at this year’s half marathon championships, which will be held in Nelspruit on the 21 July 2013.

The last year women was dominated by Central Gauteng Athletics with the Kalmer sisters Rene and Christine taking gold and silver respectively and bronze medal went to Nolene Conrad.

In the men’s category, Lucky Mohale got a silver medal in 01:01:08. He will be looking at taking the gold medal this year from the AGN Stephen Mokoka. The junior category 2012 championship winner Sithembile Dondolo is now a senior and if he qualifies he be competing with seniors.

On 20 April 2013, the CGA Council took a resolution that no junior athletes will be send with the Half Marathon Team. Therefore, the juniors will not be selected into the CGA team for the SA Half Marathon Champs as from 2013.

The senior ladies qualifying time is sub 1h20, 40+ ladies need sub 1h25, 50+ ladies sub 1h30, and 60+ ladies need sub 1h40 to be considered for selection for the national half marathon championships.

The men's qualifying times are 1h10 for the senior, 1h15 for the 40+, 1h25 for the 50+ and, 60+ needs 1h30 to qualify for the championships.

We are looking at these athletes to also support the provincial championship this weekend in an attempt to represent the province at the 2013 national Half Marathon championships to defend their respective titles.
