Old Mutual Soweto Marathon Incorporates CGA Marathon Championships 2016

Central Gauteng Athletics has sanctioned the Old Mutual Soweto Marathon race due to take place on the 6th of November 2016 to incorporate this year’s CGA Marathon (42km) Championship. Following the iconic venue for this years, the race is set to be one of a great provincial marathon race for the year.

The race will be used to select a team that will represent the province at the National Marathon Championship which will be held in February 2017. We are hoping to see this year’s overall Old Mutual Soweto Marathon title going to a local runners and even better if an athlete from Central Gauteng Athletics wins the race. In the CGA championship title we are hoping to see a number of elite athletes battling it out. The reigning champions Ntsindiso Mphakathi of Nedbank RC clocked the time of 02:21,22 and Mapaseka Makhanya who now runs for Olifantsfontein AC finishing in the time of 03:05,03 last year to be crowned provincial champs.

Central Gauteng Athletics wanted to change the future. So, in partnership with Pick n Pay, they took kids off the streets and put them on the race track, giving them hope and a second chance.
