2021 CGA Cross Country Championships – 9 January 2021

Compliments and wishing you all the best for 2021 under the current COVID-19 circumstances.

We are glad to announce that the Cross Country Championships which are due to take place this coming weekend, 9 January 2021 at Kagiso Sports Complex has received an approval from the authorities. However, it will be hosted under strict COVID-19 restrictions and protocols, we urge for the support of everyone so that we can use this event as a benchmark for safe returning to cross country events.

CGA Cross Country commission has also resolved that in order to limit the number of entries these championships must be closed to only CGA athletes and athletes that have participated in the 2019 Cross Country season, especially in the senior men category. This decision is in line with the aim of these championships to assist athletes to prepare and possibly qualify for the National Cross Country Trials which is scheduled on the 23 January 2021 in Potchefstroom.

CGA Provincial Championship will be only for juniors and seniors event categories (incorporating U/17 age group) as they are the World Champs Qualifying age groups.

Provisional Event Program:

10:00 Junior Women – 6km

10:30 Junior Men – 8km

11: 00 Senior Women – 10km

11:50 Senior Men – 10km

As part of compiling to COVID-19 regulations, only affiliated and registered coaches and athletes on the attached list will be allowed access to the venue. No spectators will be allowed at the venue. The entry fee for athletes is R20. Athletes are requested to only report to registration at least 1 hour before their event. Athletes are reminded to bring their 2020 Permanent licenses as there will be no temporary licenses sold on the day.

Athletes are requested to bring their own water bottles to the event as part of reducing the transmission of COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of motivating our elite runners’ provincial medals to the top 3 (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) and prize money to the top 5 finishers. This will be done in accordance with COVID-19 protocols without having prize giving on the day. The prize money breakdown will be as follows:

Senior Men and Women:

1st Position: R1,000

2nd Position: R500

3rd Position: R400

4th Position: R300

5th Position: R200

Junior Men and Women:

1st Position: R500

2nd Position: R400

3rd Position: R300

4th Position: R200

5th Position: R100

The event will be following strict safety protocols as per ASA and Government COVID-19 pandemic. Please see the below General Information and regulations to be adhered to at the event venue:

  1. NO MASK. NO ENTRY
  2. SANITIZE YOUR HANDS AT ALL TIMES
  3. KEEP SOCIAL DISTANCE OF 2M AT ALL TIMES
  4. ALL ATHLETES MUST HAVE TWO VALID 2020/2021 ASA LICENSE NUMBER – NO TEMPORARY LICENSES WILL BE ON SALE
  5. NO SPECTATORS AT THE EVENT
  6. COVID-19 HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE TO BE COMPLETED BY ATHLETES, TECHNICAL OFFICIALS AND REGISTERED COACHES BEFORE ENTERING THE STADIUM (SEE THE ATTACHED FORM)
  7. ONLY PRE-ENTRIES. NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY OF EVENT
  8. ONLY PRE-REGISTERED AND AFFILIATED ASA/CGA COACHES WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE VENUE
  9. NO FOOD/TUCKSHOP WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN REFRESHMENTS
  10. ATHLETES CAN ONLY REMOVE THE MASK WHEN RUNNING AND TO BE PUT BACK AS SOON AS HE/SHE IS FINISHED THE RACE
