CGA Chairperson of Women Committee, Karabo Mabilo officially opened the event to welcome the ladies in attendance and high profile guest speakers. She also used the opportunity to set the tone for the gathering and highlighted the challenges that athletics has in terms of women involvement.

Gauteng Sports Confederation board member, Moonira Ramathula shared her experience on the importance of Gender Equality in Sports. She emphasised that the federations must have equal opportunities and equal pay in events. The main point was around how to increase the number of women in leadership positions within the province.

“We need to get more female coaches at the grassroots level. We have to take the sport to the people especially in rural areas, we have a lot of talent but unfortunately, kids don’t have access to qualified coaches”. Said former Athlete and now coach, Geraldine Pillay during the Panel discussion.

Women in Sports Participation could do with support and equality through development programmes and accessibility to resources.

Gauteng Director of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Marissa Rose presented women with the of opportunities in sports such as Internships, Bursaries and competing in various events.

CGA Chairperson of Women Committee Karabo Mabilo concluded the seminar by thanking CGA Development Officer for organising such programmes to empower women in sport across the province.
