CGA marks the middle of the 2019 Cross Country season in Orange Farm

Central Gauteng Athletics in association with MTN Foundation goes the 4th round of 2019 Cross Country league held at Chris Hani Sports Complex in Orange Farm last weekend, 01 June 2019 Saturday.
The league opened with a moment of silence just before the first event by CGA President, Mr James Moloi in memory of the late Steven Jacobs. The late Jacobs was a provincial Technical Official who recently passed away.

Defending champ maintained his victory in the under 10 boys category running a distance of 2km. Tyran Brooks from Marais Viljoen Athletics Club finishes the race in a time of 00:07:02. In an interview, he indicated that he is ready for the National Championships later this year.

In the 3km Girls 11 event, Chemene Mente of Fitness for Africa (FFA) also defended her title to finish line in 00:12:16. Kimberley Swanepoel from Hoerskool Randburg claimed her victory after winning the 1st league competing in the Girls 15 category in the time of 00:14:00. Kagiso Striders also outshines in the 6km Boys under 17 event with an impressive win of Gontse Lekaba clocking 00:20:02.

One of the main events has to be the Senior Men 4km event which saw Marko Bularizza of Born 2run finishing in an impressive time of 00:11:23.

An IAAF and National event of Senior Men and Women 10km have been proven to be very competitive this year with Ntshindiso Mphakathi of Hollywood claiming his second consecutive victory of the season in the time of 00:31:32. In an interview after the race, Ntshindiso said his goal is to maintain his standard of performance throughout the season.

With the season halfway, the chairperson of Cross Country Steven Khanyile reminded athletes that at least 4 out of 8 leagues plus the CGA Championships are required for an athlete to be considered for selection to represent the Province at the National Championships late in the year.
The next league event will be held at Delta Park in Randburg, hosted by RAC on the 22 June 2019. Looking forward to seeing you there.
