CGA Team delivered sparkle performance at the SA 2019 Cross Country Championships

Central Gauteng Athletics continues to produce champions, with a turnout of 395 athletes participated at the ASA Cross Country Championships held at Centurion, Uitisig High School on the 7th September 2019.

Kicking off the first event with a victory, in the age category of Men 35-39. Pule Tjhaona opens CGA Gold Medals with his 8th consecutive partaking at the National Cross Country Championships clocking 25:26. In his post-event interview, he confessed that the race was tough, though he managed to finish the season without suffering injuries. In his conclusion, he indicated that he was preparing for Cape Town Marathon the following weekend.

A rocket start and full of excitement in the Men and Women 10km races were Precious Mashele retain his National crown for the third year in succession. Mashele, who earned Gold at the National Cross Country Trials 10km men race, in Pretoria, earlier this year, completed the course in 29:38. “According to the pace of the race, one could tell that quite a number of athletes were gunning up to defeat me’’ said Mashele. He started to break at 7km from the leading group to the finish of the race.

Another stunning performance was in the Boys 14, 4km event was Johannes Morepe secured Gold medal in style. Morepe of Murray & Roberts athletics club ran his 3rd National Cross Country Championship and since ever he took the second position from 2017, but this time he clocked 12:10 to see him take his first gold at national championships.

One of our favourite and hot events was senior men 4km race were Brendon Lentswe reach Podium in Gold medal. Lentswe who has dominated the provincial leagues including winning the 2019 ASA Grand Prix. He has wrapped the season with an impressive time of 11:07 at national championships.

“It is CGA tradition for doing well at Cross Country and the preparation during the season went well. As a result, a strong team was selected with a belief that we will bring more medals’’ said Steven Khanyile CGA Cross Country Chairman during the championships.
