Central Gauteng Athletics hosted the 7th league of the 2024 Cross Country season on Saturday, 20 July 2024 at Germiston Soccer Club in collaboration with Cool Running Athletics Club.
Another exciting league filled with great competition was witnessed on Saturday with over 1500 athletes taking part at the event which has increased from the previous leagues as we get closer to the end of the season.
One of the highlights of the day was the Senior Men 4km event which saw Kabelo Mulaudzi of Boxer clocking 10:48 to claim the 1st position together with his teammate Chris Mhlanga secured the second position clocking 10:52. The third position went to Boikanyo Motlhamme of UJ in the time of 11:14. The head-to-head battle in the 10km open man race kept spectators on their feet as Kabelo Melamu of Boxer conquered the first-time venue in Germiston to claim the gold position in the time of 28:17. Bennet Seloyi of Waterfall City settling for the silver position in the time of 28:36. The bronze position went to Ntsindiso Mphakathi of Entsika who crossed the finish line in the time of 29:07.
The 4km Sub Veteran women event was another showstopper of the day as we witnessed a lot of competition amongst athletes participating in the event. Cornelia Joubert of Boxer coming back to Cross Country to dominate the race clocking 14:20, as she posed signs of great fitness which will definitely secure a medal for Team CGA at the ASA championships. Maria Shai of Boxer claimed the second position in the time of 14:33 with Kefilwe Molefe of Colossus taking the 3rd position in the time of 15:57.
