Central Gauteng Athletics successfully concluded the 2024 Cross Country league season on Saturday, 3 August 2024 at Delta Park, Randburg which was hosted by Rand Athletics Club.
The day unfolded very well with athletes coming out in numbers as this was their final chance to prepare for the CGA Cross Country Championships which will be taking place on the 17 of August 2024 at Kagiso Sports Complex.
In a fairly warm weather, the Girls under 13 running the 3km race was the first event of the day which created so much excitement, energy and resilience with over 30 girls competing.
One of the exciting events was the Junior women 2km event that had absolutely outstanding performances with Londeka Mavimbela of UJ claiming the 1st position in the time of 07:48 followed by her teammate Lebogang Nkanyani in the 2nd position clocking 08:32. The 3rd position went to Mianda De Wit of Kempies finishing in the time of 08:40. Throughout the 2024 season, 2km event has been the crowd puller and always keep the spectators on their feet. The junior men 2km did not disappoint as we saw Boikanyo Mogokonjane of Brakpan portraying an extreme endurance from start to finish clocking 06:49 claiming the gold position. The second place went to Siboniseni Khanyo representing Mohlakeng in the time of 06:52 with Kevin Marais of Hoerskool Randburg securing the 3rd place clocking 06:53.
Another highlight of the day was the battle in the Junior Men 8km event which Sphiwe Makhoba of Cool Running claimed in the time of 29:47 followed by Thabang Hajane of Ivory Park clocking 30:01. The 3rd position was secured by Tlholo Diseko of Scaw in the time of 30:36.
