Central Gauteng Athletics successfully hosted the 1st Sub Youth Track and Field league meeting on Saturday, 21 September 2024 at Germiston Stadium.
This is the first league out of 3 leagues plus provincial championships which are aimed at the sub youth age category (primary age group between 7 and 13 years old). This age group is fundamental bases for the development in the province and we are glad that it is always well supported by athletes and spectators who attended in numbers despite a cold weather on Saturday.
These meetings will ensure that athletes have enough competition to prepare and qualify for the Inter Provincial Championships which will be hosted in Bloemfontein on the 07th of December 2024
In freezing cold weather conditions athletes did not disappoint in delivering amazing performances on the day. The boys U13 100m was dominated by Kamohelo Letebele of Tvalia to secure the first position in the time of 11.72. the second position was secured by Khotso Motsamai of Nedbank clocking 11:82 and settling for the third position was Sean Rankholo of Brakpan in the time of 12:73. It was amazing and heart-warming to witness such great talent in this age group which confirms that the province has depth in talent.
Another stunning performance was in the girls U13 shotput event where we witnessed Annabelle Blignaut of Monnas setting best performance in her age group to secure gold position with a distance of 12.45m. From JAC, Lilly Craukamp came second with the distance of 10.46m. The bronze position went to Lanelda Herbst from Boksburg with the distance of 10.17.
The boys U13 1500m was amongst great competition of the day with Indiphile Myeki of Katlehong proving to be enjoying this distance and its challenge by securing the first position clocking 04:46.59. Siyanda Madlabane of Benoni Northerns took second position in the time of 04:48.84 and the third spot went to Hudson Sambo of Warriors of West in the time of 04:58.04.
CGA Track and Field Chairperson Maggie Dicks at the post event interview, thanked all athletes, coaches, technical officials, parents and spectators who took time to come and support the 1st league. Overall, the event was a great success and I look forward to a great pre-season. The numbers and the level of competition by our young athletes this season will assist us to select a strong team to represent the province at the Inter-Provincial Championships at the beginning of December in Free State.
