CGA successfully kicks off 2025 Track and Field Season

Central Gauteng Athletics successfully hosted the 1st league of the 2025 Track and Field season at Germiston Stadium this past Saturday 25 January 2025. The league was well supported by various CGA clubs and athletes from various neighbouring provinces. We had a few athletes from our neighbouring countries as well.

One of the intriguing events of the day was the Senior Men Long Jump which saw South African Long Jump Champion Cheswill Johnson of UJ jumping a distance of 8.17 to win the event. In second position was Koketso Ramagaga of VUT with a jump of 6.69. Settling for the third position was Simon Tsilo of Nedbank with a jump of 6.66.

The other highlight of the day in the sprints was the senior men 100m race where Ngoni Makusha ran an amazing time to dominate the race clocking 10.22. In the same race the second place went to UJ athlete Matthew Ban Rooijen in the time 10.62 and in third position was Ethan Burger in the time of 10.78. In the senior women 100m category the ladies also delivered an amazing performance where UJ athletes dominated the race with Kayla la Grange in 1st position sprinting to the finish line to clock 12.10 followed by her teammate Bophele Seoe in the time of 12.32 and in 3rd position was Liandi Le Roux also in the UJ colors finishing in 12.40.

The senior men 5000m event which was the last day of the event saw Calvin Sibusiso Msibi of UJ leading the race to finish to line in the time of 14:45.50. Bennett Seloyi of Waterfall finished second clocking 14:50.96 and in third position was Jabulane Ncamane in the time of 14:58.23.

CGA Track and Field Chairperson says she looks forward to seeing more athletes competing this season in order for the province to have a very strong team at the national championships later in the year. She further encouraged athletes to register on time so that we can ensure that all the logistics are planned for accordingly.

Reminder: Age Groups for 2025
Born in 2010/2011 is U/16 (14 and 15)
Born in 2008/2009 is U/18 (16 and 17)
Born in 2006/2007 is U/20 (18 and 19)
Seniors 20 years and older

The entry fee for athletes is R30 and R50 for spectators for leagues. Temporary licenses will be sold at the venue for R 30. 2024 Permanent License numbers will be valid till the end of January 2025. as from the 1 February 2025 only 2025 Permanent licenses will be accepted. Athletes to report one hour before their respective event to the outside call room. No entry fee for CGA Affiliated Coaches, coaches will be required to produce an affiliation card at the gate. No coach will be allowed inside the competition area.
