Central Gauteng Athletics hosted the 3rd Track and Field league of 2025 season on Saturday, 15 February 2025 at Germiston Stadium. Despite the rainy weather the league was supported by over 1000 athletes in a quest to qualify for the National Championships.
One of the highlight event of the day was the Hammer Thrower, Leandri Holtzhausen (Geel) who broke her own record with a throw of 66.54. In the post event interview Leandri elaborated how much she looks forward to breaking her own record again in this same season as her goal is to throw a 70metres in the 2025 athletics season. The athlete is very proud to see that putting an effort during off season training is paying off.
The Senior Men 800m which featured Boikanyo Motlhamme of UJ was a thrilling race to watch with Motlhamme claiming the 1st position clocking 1:57.18. Jason Vermuelen of Kudus settling for second position in the time 1:58.40 and striving for the third position with a finish time of 1:58.40 was Neo Dhudla of Lesedi.
The Senior Women 1500m was another showstopper event with Mahlatsi Ngwenya in the colours of Ubuhle leading the race to claim victory clocking 02:03.68. Cacisile Sosibo of Boxer settled for second position in the time of 04:48.31 with the third position going to Sandra Wijtenburg in the time of 04:51.18.
We also had an amazing competition in the girls u18 3000m event where Nicola Smith of Ekhaya dominating the race from start to finish to clock 10:31.76 securing herself a gold medal position with the previous league winner Heymans Katelin of 32Gi settling for the silver medal position clocking 10.35.06. Mapaseka Mongatane of Masai claimed the bronze medal position clocking 10:55.26.
The 2025 Track and Field season consisting of 4 leagues with only 1 league remaining before the Provincial Championships which will be held on the 14 and 15 March 2025 with the Youth and Junior Championships at the end of March and Senior Championships in late April 2025. Athletes will be fighting for the top spot in order to be considered in the Provincial team to National Championships. Athletes are reminded they have to run at least 3 out of 4 leagues plus the CGA Championships to be considered for selection to represent the province.

Reminder: Age Groups for 2025
- Born in 2010/2011 is U/16 (14 and 15)
- Born in 2008/2009 is U/18 (16 and 17)
- Born in 2006/2007 is U/20 (18 and 19)
- Seniors 20 years and older
The entry fee for athletes is R30 and R50 for spectators for leagues. Temporary licenses will be sold at the venue for R 30. 2024 ASA License number will be valid till the end of February 2025. Athletes to report one hour before their respective event to the outside callroom.
No entry fee for CGA Affiliated Coaches, coaches will be required to produce an affiliation card at the gate. No coach will be allowed inside the competition area.
