Central Gauteng Athletics in collaboration with Kagiso Striders Athletics Club successful hosted Cross Country League 2 on Saturday, 17 May 2025 at the Kagiso Sports Complex. The event drew enthusiastic participation from athletes of all age groups with a vibrant community turnout and strong competitive spirit.
The Kagiso Sports Complex venue provided a well-organized and spectator friendly environment, contributing to the seamless execution of the event of over 800 athletes competing in various age categories.
The 2nd League also saw standout performances from rising junior stars and seasoned senior runners, hinting at an exciting season ahead. One of the exciting events was the Youth women 2km event that had absolutely outstanding performances with Chemene Mentz of Helpmekaar claiming the 1st position in the time of 07:05 followed by Caitlyn Dukoff of Germiston Callies in the 2nd position clocking 07:43. The 3rd position went to Tatum Laybourn of IRun finishing in the time of 07:50.
The junior women 6km did not disappoint as we saw Luka Strydom of FFA portraying an extreme endurance from start to finish clocking 23:34 claiming the gold position. The second place went to Abagail Bester in the time of 23:35 with her teammate Kiara Bester securing the 3rd place clocking 24:07.
Another highlight of the day was the battle in the Junior Men 8km event which Nhlanhla Mgaga of Distance Athletics Club claimed the 1st position in the time of 25:45 followed by Kgothatso Monnatlala of Kopano clocking 26:02. The 3rd position was secured by Lwazi Mkansi of Boxer in the time of 26:10.
