The fourth edition of the 2025 CGA Cross Country Leagues was successfully hosted on Saturday, 28 June 2025, at the Daveyton Sports Complex. Organized in collaboration with East Athletics Club attracting the highest turnout of athletes, coaches, and supporters from across the province this season.
The League featured a full day of exciting cross country action, including standout races such as the 4km Senior Women and Men, 8km Junior Men, and 10km Senior Men and Women races. Athletes displayed determination and competitive spirit on a course that was designed to test both endurance and agility.
The 4km Senior Women’s race saw fierce competition which has always been regarded as a fast-paced showcase of tactical speed. The CGA middle distance elite runner Cacisile Sosibo of Boxer was spotted in the event, leading the race from start to finish to secure the 1st position clocking 14:15. In the 2nd position was her teammate Nadia Lombaard in the time of 15:41 and settling for the 3rd position was Channen Long of Pirates in the time of 16:00.
In the 4km Senior Men’s race, spectators witnessed a thrilling sprint finish between Sanele Msomi of UJ who eventually claimed the 1st position in the time of 12:50 followed by Maphuti Majetja of Boksburg clocking 12:59 and 3rd position went to Nando Mafuyeka of Mamepe in the time of 13:12.
The Junior Men 8km tested the stamina and resilience of long-distance upcoming star runners. Ntando Mokoka of Tsakane dominated the race to clock 28:00 securing his win, right behind him was Tshepo Motsoeneng of Boxer in the time of 28:09 and finishing in the third position in the club colours of Footprint was Kamogelo Rathwakga in the time of 28:12.
In a post event interview with CGA Cross Country Chairperson Val Brentano said, “We are extremely proud of how the event came together and how the athletes gave an inspiring performance despite the cold weather. We are also grateful of the Daveyton community for the support of our cross country league. We look forward to seeing the same spirit in the two remaining leagues”. Cross Country continues to serve as a vital platform for athlete development and community engagement, reinforcing the role of sport in building resilience and unity.
