Central Gauteng Athletics Road Running commission is grateful to clubs that have continued to host road races in the past few months following the relaxing of COVID-19 protocols and regulations.

The current regulations allow race organisers to have more than 2000 participants (outdoor events) which must not exceed 50% of the venue capacity. Race organisers are required to request participants to produce a 72-hour rapid COVID-19 test result or a vaccine certificate upon registration/ collection. We request that we continue to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and regulations for the safety of our athletes and the entire athletics family. Let’s support official CGA Road Races to keep the road running under the pandemic’s current environment.

Several runs are not organised under the auspices of clubs and are not sanctioned by CGA, ASA and/ or the Government. We need to ensure that all our athletics events are run under an athletics structure to ensure COVID-19 compliance but most importantly accountability for the sport of athletics.

Illegal runs also have negative implications for runners, including invalidating the athlete’s insurance cover. We, therefore, request that clubs inform and educate their athletes about the risks of participating in such runs. CGA must approve any fun run and the distance of a fun run must not exceed 8km.

This weekend (29 May 2022) is the RAC 10km race. Please support local road races in the province.
