Central Gauteng Athletics has once again partnered with the Gauteng Department of Sports, Art, Culture and Recreation to host the O.R. Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games which will be held on the 06 and 07 October 2021 at Germiston Stadium, Ekurhuleni.
Just a brief background of the Games, in October 2016 a Memorandum of Understanding between the Gauteng Province (Premier David Makhura) and the Emilia-Romagna Region (President Stefano Bonaccini), signed economic, social and technological cooperation. One of the Initiatives in terms of sport in communities is the O.R. Tambo/ Soncini Social Cohesion Games that will be played annually in the month of October 2021 in Ekurhuleni.
The Games will have 5 other codes taking part with the focus age group for athletics being the under 16 (born in 2006 or 2007). Please note that part of the criteria of participation at these Games is that athletes must not have been selected to represent the Province at National Championships and/or South Africa at any international event including School events.
All the Regional Municipalities within Gauteng province will be hosting their regional Games in order to select a team to participate at the provincial games to be held in October 2021 at Germiston Stadium. Due to the current lock-down restriction and regulations, athletes are required to pre-enter on the entry link of the respective region list below. The area/regional Games will be held as follows:
