Central Gauteng Athletics hosted its first 2024 Track and Field league meeting on Saturday, 20 January 2024 at Germiston Stadium. This league was greatly supported by athletes and spectators including athletes from our sister provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the phenomenal events was the middle distance 800m senior men which CGA\u2019s elite athlete Ryan Mphahlele of UJ dominated the event from the start to finish clocking an amazing time 1:52.19, the international athlete seems to be in great physical form and ready to yet again to make history in this year\u2019s Track and Field season. Mphahlele \u2018s teammate Nicholas Whittaker finished second in the time 1:54.83, the third position in the time 1:55.43 was Brandon Viljoen of Nedbank<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the favourite races of the day was the 100m senior women sprints with UJ dominating the event which Kayla la Grange claimed the 1st<\/sup> position clocking an amazing time of 11.75, finishing second was her teammate Chante Botha clocking 13.12. Muya Olivia Kalanga also from UJ finished third in the time 13.31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the field events Nories took a clear sweep in the Girls U16 Discuss taking the 3 medal positions with Marni Vermaas throwing a distance of 34.25 to win the event. In second place was her teammate Chanlee Landsberg with a throw distance of 32.77, Third place was taken by Livah Carney in a distance of 32.08.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 3 more leagues to go this season, CGA Track and Field Chairperson Maggie Dicks says she looks forward to seeing more athletes competing this season in order for the province to have a very strong team at the national championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
