As Central Gauteng Athletics announced in early August 2021 of once again partnering with the Department of Sports, Art, Culture and Recreation Gauteng to host the 2021 OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games.
The games are an initiative by the provincial government as in October 2016 a Memorandum of Understanding between the Gauteng Province (Premier David Makhura) and the Emilia-Romagna Region (President Stefano Bonaccini), was signed for economic, social and technological cooperation.
Due to government procurement difficulties experienced by Municipalities and Provincial governments who are funders of the program, we have been unfortunately forced to postpone regional games for Ekurhuleni and West Rand as well as the provincial games by at least two weeks. The area/regional Games will now be held as follows:
