Central Gauteng Athletics successfully hosted the 1st league of the 2024 season at Tsakane. The league was hosted in collaboration with Tsakane Athletics Club and it was well supported by various clubs.
The 1st race of the day was the girls under 13 years running a 3km race, which saw Chelsea Van Dykof Benoni Northerns winning the race in the time 11:57.In second position was Zanele Mzizi of LAFA in the time 12:16. Settling for the third position was Amila Tshetshe in the time 12:35.
The other highlight of the day was the Senior Women 4km event race where Tashia Mbobo of RAC ran her relaxed pace to dominate the event and clocking 17:18 In the same race the second place went to Pirates Road Running athlete channen Long in the time 17:31 and in 3rd position was Batji Makoma of Maxed Elite in the time of 18:11.
The senior Men 4km event saw Thabang Sebopa of Born2 Run leading the race to finish 1st in the time 13:26 with Molefe Bennett of Hollyhood AC finishing second in the time 13:41 and in third position was Vusi Mazibuko of Lesedi AC clocking 14:09.
This year’s Cross Country season consists of 8 leagues and with 7 leagues remaining Val Brentano, CGA Cross Country Chairperson says she looks forward to seeing more athletes competing this season in order for the province to have a very strong team at the national championships later in the year .She further encouraged athletes to register on time so that we can ensure that all the logistics are planned for accordingly.
