Central Gauteng Athletics would like to congratulate each and every athlete that represented the province at the Sub Youth Inter Provincial Championships held on Saturday, 2th of December 2023 in Secunda.

A very strong team selected by the province ensured that a total of 48 medals were brought home including the bragging rights of being the number province for 2 consecutive years in the sub youth category.

We were delighted to see exceptional performances during the Sub Youth season which continued till the Interprovincial Championships, the likes of Fourie Chane who broke 2 national records, in the Girls 13 100m crossing the finish line in the time 12.20 and the Girls 13 200m which was a 12-year-old record clocking 24.85 securing 2 gold medals for the province.

One of CGA Athletes Sambo Dawson who has been consistent during all 2023 sub youth season in the Boys U13 800m events broke an 8 year old record clocking 2:06.04. Dawson brought home a well-deserved gold medal from the championships.

Also breaking the 4 years and 8 years old records was Ehirim Chibunna in the long jump with a distance of 6.19 in the Boys U13 and the 100m event in the time of 11.15.

As the province we are happy with great performances by our athletes which confirms that the future of athletics in the province is definitely bright. This age group is very important to determine and measure our progress of various development programmes. We will be developing a system to trace these athletes in the next 4 to 8 years to ensure that we retain them within athletics and the province.

Track and Field Chairperson Maggie Dicks during the post championships interview, thanks everyone who contributed to making sure the Sub Youth Track and Field Season was a success.
