Central Gauteng Athletics planned Track and Field league Meeting for the 23 January 2021 is, unfortunately, postponement till further notice.
In the past few weeks our efforts of engaging with Ekurhuleni Municipality with great consideration of our athletes especially those that are looking forward to qualifying for continental and international events including Olympic Games to have some form of event. The last announcement by President Ramaphosa following the second wave outbreak and the adjusted alert level 3, the Municipality who are the owners of the facility has not approved the use of the stadium for events. We are also in conversation with the University of Johannesburg regarding the use of their facilities which is also not available due to the current alert level 3.
As part of contributing to the fight to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic we have accepted the disapproval by Ekurhuleni Municipality on using the stadium for events till the next expected address by President Ramaphosa on the National State of Disaster before the 15 February 2021 and hopefully the lowering of the alert levels to allow for events. We will keep the clubs updated on the developments in this regard.
We, therefore, reiterate that as much as our athletes’ need to have event, the lives of our athletes, coaches, technical officials and the office staff is our priority, we will continue to protect our members from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Herewith, please find the attached updated Track and Field Fixtures for 2021 and the ASA recent Circular regarding the suspension of events for 2 weeks.
Kind regards,
