Central Gauteng Athletics successfully hosted the 1st league of the season at Sam Ntuli Stadium in Thokoza. The league was hosted in collaboration with Ubuhle Athletics Club and it was well supported by various clubs with over 900 athletes taking part.

The 1st race of the day was Boys and Girls under 8 years running 1km race, which Mila Scholtz won the girls event with Junior Mwa of Tembisa taking 1st position in the boy’s event. Mwa who also dominated last season is definitely one of the athlete to look out for as he seems determined to maintain his standards again in this season.

In the same race the second place went to FFA athlete Katlego Khelemithi and settling for the 3rd position was Johannes Morepe of Murray and Roberts in the time of 25:40.

All eyes were on the 10km senior women and senior men race which is regarded as the main World Athletics events together with the Junior race, saw a few of CGA elite athletes participating in the event. In the men category we saw Sakhie Sangweni of Gallopers leading the race to finish 1st in the time 30:50, with Letsepa Madume of Ivory Park AC finishing second in the time 30:59 and in 3rd position was Donald Mashamaite of Kempton Road Runners clocking 31:34. The senior women category was dominated by Cacisile Sosibo of Boxer to secure the 1st position in the time of 33:26, Farida Zwane of Rockies claimed the 2nd position in the time 36:14 and the 3rd position went to Kutlwano Mphanya representing Urithi athletics club.
