Central Gauteng Athletics proudly hosted the 1st Track and Field league meeting of 2023/2024 season on Saturday, 30 September 2023 at Germiston Stadium.

The league meeting focused on the sub youth age category (primary age group between 7 and 13 years old) which enjoyed great support in number of athletes and spectators who attended the meeting on Saturday. This was one of the 3 league meetings planned for this age group plus provincial championships. These meetings will ensure that athletes have enough competition to prepare and qualify for the Inter Provincial Championships which will be hosted in Secunda, Mpumalanga on the 02nd of December 2023

On Saturday, one of the interesting events was the boys U11 70m hurdles where Pretorius Jeorge of I have Talent dominate to secure the first position in the time of 11.63. In second position it was Van Schalkwyk Dian of Boksburg in the time 11:75 and settling for the third position was Pistorius Zayden of Germiston Callies in the time of 11:92. It was amazing and heart-warming to witness such great talent in this age group which confirms that the province has depth in talent.

Another stunning performance was in the girls U13 javelin event where we witnessed the girls setting best performances with De Jong Taylin of HELPAC to secure gold position with a distance of 37.85m. From IHT, Coetzee Sune came second with the distance of 28.99m. The bronze position went to Nel Imcke from HSRB with the distance of 28.51M.

In the boys U13 1500m was a great competition amongst our sub youth athletes as this may be the most challenging distance for the young athletes but Nkabini Lindani of Tembisa AC proved to be enjoying this distance and its challenge by securing the first position clocking 04:46.50. With a very close finish, Tsotetsi Teko April of Phutuma took second position in the time of 04:46.80 and the third spot went to Muvale Costodio of Warriors of West in the time of 04:51.80.

CGA Track and Field Chairperson Maggie Dicks at the post event interview, thanked all athletes, coaches, parents and spectators who took time to come and support the 1st league. Overall the event was a great success and look forward to a great pre-season. The numbers and the level of completion by our young athletes at this league will assist us to select a strong team to represent the province at the Inter-Provincial Championships at the beginning of December in Mpumalanga.
