Central Gauteng Athletics joined hands with Zithulele Sinqe Foundation to host the 1st leg of the CGA Zet Sinqe Series Run on Saturday, 13 May 2023 at Lodirile High School. This leg of the series was greatly supported by quite a number of CGA affiliated athletes which gives positive feedback leaving us with great anticipation for the 2nd and 3rd series.

The objective behind the CGA Zet Sinqe Series is to continue the development work of late Zithulele Sinqe who was a dedicated CGA development coach with IAAF (WA) Level 2 Coaching qualification. Part of the CGA Zet Sinqe Series is to use the events to unearth athletics talent, assisting in furthering the education and training opportunities for this talent.

The day commenced with the 5km open race, which incorporated the CGA 5km Championships and in this event, we saw Andries Sesedi of Nedbank running club dominate the race from the start to claim victory in 00:15:05:50. He was followed by Zenzile Pheko of Kopano AC who claimed a silver medal on the podium with a time of 00:15:10:04, Realtegile Mosweu took the bronze medal position.

Another interesting race of the day was the U19 Female Walk where we saw Masai athletics club dominating the event claiming all three podium positions with Thato Ramalo leading the race clocking 00:08:48:38. Ramalo was followed by her teammate Keneilwe Mhlale in the time of 00:09:03:93 and securing another medal for team Masai AC was Owami Mzimande clocking 00:09:39:88 to receive a bronze medal.

The final race of the day was the Open Mile Men, which saw Chris Mhlanga of UJ athletics club dominating the race to clock the time of 00:04:26:31. Mhlanga proves to be very fit for the season and we are looking forward to seeing him doing well in this year’s series.

With 2 more series to go, Central Gauteng Athletics would like to encourage coaches to enter athletes in this programme as it plays a significant role in ensuring the development of athletes.

We look forward to seeing you in the 2nd Zet Sinqe Leg Series which will take place on the 5th of August 2023 at Sam Ntuli Stadium in Thokoza.
