Central Gauteng Athletics has been entrusted to host the first ever 5km National Championships in the country. The championship is set to take place on the 17t June 2023 at FNB Stadium.

A number of prominent elite athletes in middle distance are expected to participate at the championships with the hope of being selected for the World 5km Championships later in the year.

As part of encouraging participation in the 5km distances as an official race which we had regarded as fun runs, an open mass race will be incorporated at the championships. This will allow ordinary runners to run alongside our elite runners. The mass race entries are open to everyone. Online registration is now open on the following link: onreg.com/sa5champs23

CGA affiliated clubs and athletes are encouraged to enter for this upcoming exciting event. In the planning meeting CGA General Manager said it is an absolute honour for us as a province to host the first ever 5km National Championships. We are extremely excited and anticipate great performances by athletes who will be showcasing their amazing talent.
